GAYATHRI MANTHRAM

"OM BHURBHUVASVAHA TATSAVITURVARENYAM BHARGODEVASYA DHEEMAHI DHEEYOYONAH PRAJOTHAYATH"



The above mentioned MANTHRA is called as GAYATHRI MANTHRA. Its a great manthra which include the full meanings of four VEDAs or in other words the VEDAs took its origin from this MANTHRA. It will take more than a life to understand the deep meanings which is hidden inside this MANTHRA. Its told in ITAREYOPANISHAD that, "GAYÁN PRÁNÁN TRÁYATHAE SÁ GÁAYATHRI" which means, that which will help or protect the lifes is called GAYATHRI.. Lets try to find meanings of each words in this great MANTHRA hidden in different scriptures....


GAYATHRI MANTHRAM is made up of 24 letters, each letter having wast meanings.
(~ OM ~) OM itself is believed to be the BRAHMAM or the ultimate soul. Its the sound of extreme soul or we can tell the sound of god or god itself.This sound is also called as PRANAVAM. All sounds in this universe is originated from this prime sound. Its told in VRIDHA HARITHI SMRITHI (6.88) that,

"SARVESHÁMEVA MANTHRÁNÁM KÁRANAM PRANAVAM SMRUTHAHA"

Its the PRANAVA MANTHRA which is responsible for all other MANTHRAS..

(~ BHUH, BHUVAHA, SVAHA ~) These 3 are called as VYAHRUTHIs. It shows many imaginations and it will bring us to different imaginations. The root or essence of VEDAS is called UPANISHATH, The root or extreme essence of UPANISHATH is GAYATHRI and the root of GAYATHRI is these VYAHRITIs..

(~ TATH ~) It shows the PARAMATHMA or the extreme soul. We cant see the PARAMATHMA with our eyes. Only way to see it is with our INNER SOUL. This TATH is placed in begining of GAYATHRI is to let the man who chant this MANTHRA to start it by thinking that extreame soul..

(~ SAVITHUH ~) Its common meaning is sun. The unknown power from the extreme soul reach our eyes in the form of sun. But, the SAVITHUH here is not just the sun, its the shining of PARAMATHMA itself. In Bruha-Yoga-Yajna(9/55) its told that,

"SAVITHA SARVA BHOTANAM SARVABHAVASCHA SUYATHE"
Means, SAVITHA is the creater of all sorts of living beings..

(~ VARENYE ~) Means, That which is acceptable to us. There exists all sorts of knowledge in the extreme soul. In that some may not be usefull to us and some will be usefull too. And, here by using this VARENYE we are accepting the knowledge that will be usefull to us from that wast source..

(~ BHARGA ~) The extreme power that kills the evils is called as BHARGAN. We must place this BHARGAN inside us to fight against evil things in this world. Its told by sage VYASA that,
"BHRAAJATE CHA YADHA BHARGHAH"
Means, The name bhargha is derived coz of the devine shining..

(~ DEVASYA ~) DEVA is one who live in Dyoh, or in the heaven. One who spread the supreme light from above. One who used to give Daanam. By using the word DEVASYA, its wishing that let those who spell this may become like DEVA and let them get high places after their death. Let them spread the light of love every where..

(~ DHEMAHI ~) Means, doing DHYANAM, or meditation or worshiping. The thing that we meditate will become stable in our mind. The thing that stable in our mind got our special attention and love too. And it can let us reach or get the perticular thing that we are worshipping..

(~ DHIYAH ~) DHI means intelligence. By this it shows, let our intelligence be good enough to attain all prospirity. Let our intelligence be usefull for good purposes. And let it be out of reach from evil spirits..

(~ YAH ~) Means, that which. In NIRNAYA KALPA VYAKHYANAM, its written that,
"YAH PRATHYAG ROOPAH"
Thats, YAH is ATHMAROOPAM which we can see. Bye using this it conveys, let the extreme soul stay in us. Let that soul help us to swim away from these life hurdles..

(~ NAH ~) Means mine,or our. We already done prayer to extreme soul, but that prayer is not for our sake but for the entire universe. And by this we let the prayer to whole universe..

(~ PRAJOTHAYATH ~) Means, let it inspire. Let that extreme soul inspire us. Let we are inspired to do these things. Let our intelligense be inspired by that PARAMATHMA..

This MANTHRA is made up of 24 letters, and each letter is like a sea of knowledge of its own. Chanting this MANTHRA daily will bring you all sorts of prospirity.
